Week 8 - Head Modelling

Image
This week i began modelling the head, to many arguably the hardest part of the human body, during this process, i followed a YouTube tutorial (Listed below) which was merely a speed build was very helpful in creating a model head to my specifications. I looked at the Lynda.com tutorial for building characters, and much like the boy tutorial, while some areas were informative, The style of head had deviated so far from what my character is. Despite what i was told, i actually really enjoyed the head build so far. it was fun to see how the model is finally coming together. To begin, i created a circle and added subdivisions in height and length. I flattened the sides of the heads, and then using the edge tool dragged the vertices down to create an incredibly basic head shape. I then added edge loops down the front of thew face (currently a flat surface), with more lines to work with, i extruded a nose and pushed some edges back to create the cavities of the eyes. i then created two n...

Week 6 & 7 - Modelling the Hands

Image
During these two weeks my progress has slowed dramatically due to tight deadlines in other modules, forcing me to prioritise. However, this did not stop me from developing one of the most important parts of the character, the hands. Having now built some hands i can use them for future model builds, saving time that can otherwise be spent fine tuning other areas of that model. the hands i built from a basic cube, extruding the fingers out and the sub-dividing them and adding detail to them, the thumb was built off an extruded cube, and then the thumb itself was extruded out, i took photos of my own hands as reference, but also found photos of ladies hands so as the hands were more in liner with the actual character. This was the basic shape of the hand model i made,i made a cuboid, and subdivided it 4 times, then extruded the fingers out. once that was done, i extruded the faces of the bottom quarter of the hand out, and then extruded the thumb out Once the basics of the hands ...

Week 5 - Building the Jumper.

Image
With the completion of the jeans i then moved onto the jumper. i extruded the top and bottom of the jumper to create the edges, and in addition to that, also created rolled up sleeves. A jumper is generally loose to i cut down on the amount of definition on the breast area, as it wouldn't really form fit onto the body like a tight shirt would. With the jumper, soften a lot of the curved, to give the illusion of a big think jumper, i also widened the area of the neck so when the time came i could extrude of the shirt the is underneath the jumper, like in the character design, i thought about  building the shirt as an entirely separate piece, however, this would mean i would layer two things on top of one another, which could risk overlap of geometry and would also increase the size of my Maya folder. Let alone just mean i would have to spend more time on my model than i would otherwise, so the idea was scrapped.  Once the jumper was done, which took a lot less time t...
