Week 5 - Building the Jumper.

With the completion of the jeans i then moved onto the jumper. i extruded the top and bottom of the jumper to create the edges, and in addition to that, also created rolled up sleeves. A jumper is generally loose to i cut down on the amount of definition on the breast area, as it wouldn't really form fit onto the body like a tight shirt would.
With the jumper, soften a lot of the curved, to give the illusion of a big think jumper, i also widened the area of the neck so when the time came i could extrude of the shirt the is underneath the jumper, like in the character design, i thought about  building the shirt as an entirely separate piece, however, this would mean i would layer two things on top of one another, which could risk overlap of geometry and would also increase the size of my Maya folder. Let alone just mean i would have to spend more time on my model than i would otherwise, so the idea was scrapped.

Once the jumper was done, which took a lot less time than last week with the development of the legs, once that was done i extruded from the jumper and created the under shirt, the collar was made in a similar fashion to how i created the fold up sleeves. i created a tube and the extruded them out and then back.

For the shirt coming out the bottom of the shirt, i literally extruded the jumper down, messed with the geometry to give it a shirt feel, and to differentiate it from the jumper, and the made the bottom slightly thicker, the same as i did with the jumper, as while looking at clothing for reference, nearly all clothing has a lip where the fabric is sewed shut, so thought it would be a nice touch to include this in my model as well.

When originally building the colour to my character, i extruded the geometry out wrong, meaning the faces were back to front, and if i had left the model like this, when it came to texturing my model, i wouldn't have been able to texture the collar properly, so i restarted

Once the Upper body was complete i also began working on the shoes of my characters, the way i had built the model made building the shoes rather easy, as all i have to do was add the detailing and sole to the shoe and it was pretty much there. The shoe will come to life better when it is textured.
The only problem i encountered while making the shoe and the jumpers was the overlap between then and the jeans, so had to remodel certain areas to make the fit more in snug with one another. I tried for the most part to make them not overlap on both the smooth and the hard edge tool but if it was unavoidable while trying to get what i wanted in soft select the model in small areas on hard edge overlaps, but for the most part it is not noticeable in the slightest.

Once again i am happy with how the model is progressing, as i get further into the build of my character the harder it becomes to try and make everything look as uniform as you would want it to, as detailing makes it so you have to bunch and stretch areas together, however this is unlikely to effect my final results and am happy with how everything is coming together.
