Week 3, T Pose and Beginning Modelling

Mostly happy with my designs, i chose the more casual of the outfits for the character, as the greater range of textures would look more interesting in a final model. Once i was happy with any final tweaks i made to the design i created a T-Pose. However, i made a mistake and had the T pose back to front to the conventional way, i realised a few weeks into my model build, but had commited to making the model by this point, i will have to rotate the model when complete, and wont require much effort.

This week i also began my model build, to begin with, i was rusty with my Maya skills, so i did a practice piece of a model based upon the Pokemon Porygon.
Once i was back in touch with my Maya skill set i began modelling my model, on the first day i spent approx. 10 hours building the basics of the body, the initial shape of the torso and legs came together very quick. One thing i had a problem with, was that my model looked different when switching from my Windows PC to the MAC's at the uni. I decided i would be working more regularly on the Macs so i formatted my model to the macs, this however didn't come without its problem, formatting my model meant that when i opened my model in a PC it becomes unusable. which is a problem as i wont be able to work from home. i Feel confident with my progress this week and hope it continues into weeks to come!

I did most of my build on my PC at home, but i can to work on my model at the Digital art centre's mac's, when my computer's version of Maya 2017 stopped working. Upon a fresh install of Maya on my Windows PC. i loaded up my model to discover this, however the model itself looked fine on a Mac. So in future weeks i will have to continue to use macs until i can find a solution to my problem.

The Initial Build, This is approx. 10 hours of building. i started with cylinders and extruded out and sculpted into a body shape. once happy i cut holes in the shape and merged the vertices together to make a single obj. Linked below is the tutorial i followed on YouTube, as i felt that the Lynda tutorials, while informative as to certain techniques, did not fit the type of character build i was going for, as it was too stylised.

A screenshot of the model in hard view and with the wire frame showing. the geometry at this point is still simple, but gives the shape of a Female body.
